Guardians of the Desert at La Nube

January 20, 2025 By Oscar Camargo

Guardians of the Desert • La Nube Children’s Museum

Looking up at a promenade of large, brightly painted aluminum animal models positioned high above the floor, Stephen Ingle, co-founder and creative director of Creative Kids, explained the meaning behind the artwork his nonprofit contributed to La Nube. “That’s the blood, sweat and tears by the kids and the whole group at Creative Kids,” he said, pointing at the promenade of animals – an owl, prairie dog, roadrunner, jaguar, fox, wolf, rabbit and a deer. “They’re called the guardians of the desert,” he said. “It signifies the animal life that has been here, taking care of our land, and taking care of people on both sides of the border.

“It’s the unity of two nations, and these animals that protect us. This is the place we want to be. It’s where the kids are.” By Reyes Mata III / El Paso Inc. reporter  •  Jun 11, 2024
